July 18, 2018 – Luke 10:41-42 – Relationship With God

And Jesus answered and said to her, Martha, Martha, you are careful and troubled about many things: But one thing is needful: and Mary has chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her.

– Luke 10:41-42

Thoughts on Today’s Verse…

Although these words of the Lord Jesus are for Martha, they also show us what kind of people are beloved by the Lord. Martha was just busy about external matters, while Mary chose to be quiet before the Lord and listen to His sermons. Thus, the Lord Jesus commended Mary that she had chosen that good part. So, it is important to be quiet before God, pray and ponder on God’s words earnestly. However, in real life, we often like Martha, only busy ourselves with external matters rather than be quiet before God and establish a normal relationship with Him. As a result, we are numb in spirit, and seldom attain God’s enlightenment and guidance, and grow slowly in our spiritual life. God says, “So what must you pay attention to from now on? One aspect is to have a normal spiritual life, meaning these external things: prayer, meetings, eating and drinking the words of God, listening to sermons and singing hymns and praising. Besides keeping these external things, don’t delay your own duty, do your duty well. The most important point that you must understand is this: If you want to seek the truth, understand the truth and attain the truth, then you must learn to quiet yourself before God, learn to contemplate the truth and contemplate God’s words.

God’s words tell us that the most important thing in believing in God is to seek the truth and gain the truth. It is our duty to minister, but it is also crucial to learn to be quiet before God and ponder on His words. When ministering, we should seek the truth, grasp God’s will in His words and act according to His will. Thus, we can gain the truth during our ministering. Only by pursuing in this way can we be after God’s will and commended by God.
