God’s Name in the Old Testament

Exodus 3:15
And God said moreover to Moses, Thus shall you say to the children of Israel, the LORD God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has sent me to you: this is my name for ever, and this is my memorial to all generations.


Exodus 20:7
You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that takes his name in vain.


Exodus 34:14
For you shall worship no other god: for the LORD, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God.


Isaiah 43:10–11
You are my witnesses, said the LORD, and my servant whom I have chosen: that you may know and believe me, and understand that I am he: before me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after me. I, even I, am the LORD; and beside me there is no savior.

God’s Name in the New Testament

Matthew 1:21

And she shall bring forth a son, and you shall call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.


Acts 4:12

Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.


Philippians 2:9–11

Why God also has highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.


 


The Lord’s New Name Prophesied in the Revelation

Revelation 3:12

Him that overcomes will I make a pillar in the temple of my God, and he shall go no more out: and I will write on him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, which is new Jerusalem, which comes down out of heaven from my God: and I will write on him my new name.
