Bible Verses About the Sabbath

Bible Verses About the Sabbath

Keeping the Sabbath was one of the requirements from God in the Age of Law. All those who lived under the law kept the Sabbath. During the time that the Lord Jesus became flesh to do His work, He and His disciples passed the wheat field on the Sabbath, the disciples plucked and ate ears of grain with hunger. Their action was puzzling for other people. The Lord Jesus said: “the Son of man is Lord even of the sabbath day.” From this word, we can see that although the Sabbath was set to keep for mankind, the Lord Jesus has done the new work and He hopes we can honor God as great and do not keep the Sabbath any more. So we should put aside our outdated practices to keep pace with His present work. Just as God says, “If you desire to witness the appearance of God, if you wish to follow the footprints of God, then you must first transcend your own conceptions. You must not demand that God do this or that, much less should you place Him within your own confines and limit Him to your own conceptions. Instead, you should ask how you should seek the footprints of God, how you should accept the appearance of God, and how you should submit to the new work of God; that is what should be done by man.” The last days have come. The prophecies about the second coming of the Lord have been fulfilled. We need to cast off our imagination and notion so that we can welcome His second coming. When we hear His voice, we should accept and obey Him to keep pace with His newest work.

Genesis 2:3
And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made.

Exodus 20:8-11
Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days shall you labor, and do all your work: But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD your God: in it you shall not do any work, you, nor your son, nor your daughter, your manservant, nor your maidservant, nor your cattle, nor your stranger that is within your gates: For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: why the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.

Deuteronomy 5:12-14
Keep the sabbath day to sanctify it, as the LORD your God has commanded you. Six days you shall labor, and do all your work: But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD your God: in it you shall not do any work, you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your manservant, nor your maidservant, nor your ox, nor your ass, nor any of your cattle, nor your stranger that is within your gates; that your manservant and your maidservant may rest as well as you.

Matthew 12:12
How much then is a man better than a sheep? Why it is lawful to do well on the sabbath days.

Mark 2:23-28
And it came to pass, that he went through the corn fields on the sabbath day; and his disciples began, as they went, to pluck the ears of corn. And the Pharisees said to him, Behold, why do they on the sabbath day that which is not lawful? And he said to them, Have you never read what David did, when he had need, and was an hungered, he, and they that were with him? How he went into the house of God in the days of Abiathar the high priest, and did eat the show bread, which is not lawful to eat but for the priests, and gave also to them which were with him? And he said to them, The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath: Therefore the Son of man is Lord also of the sabbath.

Luke 13:10-17
And he was teaching in one of the synagogues on the sabbath. And, behold, there was a woman which had a spirit of infirmity eighteen years, and was bowed together, and could in no wise lift up herself. And when Jesus saw her, he called her to him, and said to her, Woman, you are loosed from your infirmity. And he laid his hands on her: and immediately she was made straight, and glorified God. And the ruler of the synagogue answered with indignation, because that Jesus had healed on the sabbath day, and said to the people, There are six days in which men ought to work: in them therefore come and be healed, and not on the sabbath day. 15The Lord then answered him, and said, You hypocrite, does not each one of you on the sabbath loose his ox or his ass from the stall, and lead him away to watering? And ought not this woman, being a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan has bound, see, these eighteen years, be loosed from this bond on the sabbath day? And when he had said these things, all his adversaries were ashamed: and all the people rejoiced for all the glorious things that were done by him.

David and Goliath (Full Version) - With God Nothing Is Impossible

David and Goliath (Full Version) - With God Nothing Is Impossible This vivid animation has outlined the story of David and Goliath. There was a great disparity in strength between them. Beyond a doubt, all Christians are familiar with this story. The slight shepherd, David, amazingly defeated the giant Goliath, who was over nine feet tall. He protected the Israelis from aggression. Whenever I read this story, the Lord’s word will come to my mind, “With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.” David, who has firm faith in God, killed the giant Goliath, who was hard to defeat, with a stone. Obviously, in God there is nothing that cannot be accomplished. I have been so inspired by this story. In real life, friction among colleagues, having difficulty getting along with customers, deterioration in business performance, etc., such difficulties always come upon me and I have no idea how to deal with them. Sometimes, I didn’t want to face the reality because of passiveness and cowardice. After reading this story, I came to know that I had not enough faith in God. Rather than relying on God, I solved the problems only with my own efforts. Afterwards, when I run into heavy weather, I’d like to come before God and pray to Him, entrusting my difficulties into His hands and obeying His arrangement. I deeply believe that God knows everyone’s difficulties and needs. When we truly depend on God, He will make a way for us. Only in this way, difficulties cannot stand in the way of me, but work as a steppingstone for the growth of my life, helping me grow constantly and become stronger.
