Do you know how to listen to God’s voice and welcome the Lord?
By Zheng Rong
After lunch, Zheng Rong went to the window and looked outside. She saw that on the square, there were many couples taking leisurely strolls with their children. The scene brought her mind to her distant home …
She was meek since childhood; after getting married, she and her husband were deeply attached to each other, and she got along well with her parents-in-law. Besides, her nine-year-old son was intelligent, lively, and doing well at school. The whole family lived happily.
However, just when she was enjoying her wonderful life, the Chinese Communist Party police’s arrest came upon her …
It was May 27, 2014. After a meeting, Zheng Rong returned home and did housework as usual. Suddenly, there came a screech of brakes from outside the door. Immediately following, four strangers stormed straight into her home. One of them went over to her and said, “We are cops. We heard you believe in Almighty God; we want to talk to you.” Hearing this, Zheng Rong got nervous and thought: “How did they know that I? Could it be that I was reported? Are they here to arrest me?” She immediately prayed to God in silence: “Oh, God, the situation seems quite threatening, and I feel so frightened. May You guide me and give me wisdom and courage.…” After praying, she thought of : “Do not fear, Almighty God of hosts will surely be with you; He has your back and He is your shield.” With the enlightenment and guidance of God’s words, her heart calmed down a lot: “Yes! No matter how savage Satan is, it is still in God’s hands. God is my staunch support. With God by my side, there is nothing to fear.” Just at that time, her husband came back home from the market. The police told him: “Your wife needs to come with us. We heard that she believes in Almighty God. We have to ask her some questions.” Hearing this, her husband said: “She only believes in God without breaking the law. Why are you taking her?” But as the CCP police are always absolutely lawless, they totally ignored him. In the end, her husband helplessly watched her being forcibly taken away by them.
After arriving at the police station, the police took her to an interrogation room and asked her: “Why do you believe in God? Who preached to you? Who are your leaders? Where do you have meetings? Do you know XX?” Zheng Rong kept silent all the time. Seeing this, they snapped: “Even though you say nothing, we can still convict you. The Communist Party does not believe in God and will never allow you to believe in God. You’d better tell us everything you know and give up your belief. Otherwise, not only will you be sent to jail, but your son cannot go to school and your husband will also be involved.” Hearing these words, Zheng Rong could not help but become weak. She thought: “This gang of devils are despicable and shameless to the extreme, and they can do any evil thing. If they don’t allow my son to attend school, what should he do in the future? But I cannot tell them the truth.” At that moment, she remembered God’s words: “Much less do I like to associate with those who sell out the interests of their friends.” God’s words reminded her and made her see clearly that the CCP police wanted to use this method to force her to sell out brothers and sisters and betray God. They were too base and evil! She knew that brothers and sisters’ spreading the gospel and bearing witness to God is heaven’s law and earth’s principle; it is a good deed, and even more, is the most righteous cause among men. As a result, she said nothing regardless of how the police interrogated and threatened her. But the police didn’t leave it at that; they sent a policeman to sweet-talk her, attempting to seduce her into betraying her church and brothers and sisters. She kept praying to and relying on God, and in this way, she saw through Satan’s scheme, saying nothing to him.
About 5 o’clock in the afternoon, Zheng Rong’s sister-in-law came and tried to persuade her: “Come on, sister-in-law, just tell them everything you know. Even if you don’t consider yourself, you should consider your child. …” It was obvious to Zheng Rong that the police tried to use her sister-in-law as a persuasive talker, so she retorted directly: “I have nothing to say. I haven’t broken the law or done anything bad.” Failing to get any information from her, the police finally used “disturbing the order of society” as an excuse to ask her husband to pay a fine and then let her go back home.
When she returned home, her husband said in a rage: “They called me to the police station and made me watch the surveillance videos. I’ve seen you at any major intersections in the city but haven’t seen which house you entered. I overheard that they would put a tail on you.” Only then did she realize why the police let her off so easily: It turned out that they attempted to catch more brothers and sisters through her! Letting the small fish go to catch the big fish—this is the CCP’s consistent trick. She felt deep resentment and said to her husband indignantly: “In believing in God, we just attend gatherings and preach the gospel. We neither break the law nor do wicked things. It’s too mean and shameless of the CCP to impose a false charge on me!” Her husband threw up his hands: “As long as the CCP is still in power, it is no use reasoning with them. How can we contend with them?” However, since Zheng Rong had firmly believed that believing in God is the right path of life, she was not intimidated by the CCP’s despotism and still persevered in her belief and spreading the gospel. But every time when she went out for meetings, she would be particularly cautious and careful. She would disguise herself so that no one should recognize her, and she also often took a roundabout route to try to avoid the video cameras.
One day, when Zheng Rong had just come back to her husband’s store after a meeting, he smashed up her electric scooter in anger and told her: “Today, the chief of the police station came to our home. Finding you were not there, he told me that if you insisted on believing in God, this store would be forced to close down, our son could not go to school anymore, and you would even be imprisoned. He asked me to keep an eye on you. So no matter what, I will not allow you to continue believing in God. If the police find that you are still believing in God, our life really won’t be able to go on!” After hearing this, Zheng Rong realized the CCP had threatened her husband, so she even more hated it in her heart.
In the following days, because of the CCP’s intimidation, her husband no longer allowed her to attend meetings or read God’s words. What’s more, he secretly hid all her books of God’s words. In this situation, she was very agonized. So she prayed to God: “Oh God, since my husband has been deluded and threatened by the CCP government, he doesn’t dare to let me continue believing in You and even has hidden my books of God’s words. Without Your words, my heart is in darkness and I have no path to walk. I really don’t know what I should do. God! Please lead me out of this difficulty.” Afterward, she thought of God’s words: “You must suffer hardship for the truth, you must give yourself to the truth, you must endure humiliation for the truth, and to gain more of the truth you must undergo more suffering. This is what you should do.” God’s words gave her great comfort. She understood that believing in God and walking the right path in China, ruled by the CCP, she must endure hardship and pay the price. The CCP is exactly the enemy of God, and it devises every way possible to disturb and impair God’s work of salvation. Its purpose in using her family to persecute her was to make her forsake the truth and betray God, follow along with its evil conduct and rebel against God, and thus be destroyed by God together with it. Realizing this, she knew that she couldn’t fall for Satan’s tricks, and she also made up her mind to believe in and follow God to the end.
One night, after reading the rumors on a poster outside his store of the CCP framing and blaming The Church of Almighty God, her husband was deeply deceived and said to her: “If you keep believing in God, I will divorce you.” Hearing these words, Zheng Rong was very distressed: “In the past ten years, we stuck together through thick and thin. But now, because of the CCP’s rumors and persecutions, our conjugal affection has been turned to enmity, and those happy days have gone.” Thinking of this, she wanted to cry but shed no tears.
Since her husband worried that if the CCP found out that she was still believing in God, his store would be shut down and their son would not be able to continue his education, finally she had no alternative but to agree to divorce him. When she walked out of the local civil affairs bureau, the raindrops fell onto her face, which mingled with her tears. The discomfort in her heart just felt like a cutting blade. Zheng Rong couldn’t help crying out silently: “I just believe in God and worship God to be good and to walk the right path of life. What’s wrong with that? Why does the CCP government arrest, persecute, and monitor me, making me lose my freedom? Besides, due to the enormous pressure caused by the CCP’s persecution, my loving husband forced me to divorce him, making my little son lose motherly love. Why must it tear my family, which was whole and harmonious, apart?”
After the divorce, Zheng Rong went to live in a sister’s home. Although it was not far from her own home, all she could do was look from afar. She was so eager to go home to her young child, but she dared not and could not do that, because the CCP knew she still believed in God and was still persecuting her. So many times, she wanted to call her mother and ask about things that went on at home. But she didn’t, for she knew once she made a call, she would be tapped and located. When she thought that she couldn’t return home or see her family, she burst into tears and sobbed.
In pain, she saw the following words of God: “For thousands of years this has been the land of filth, it is unbearably dirty, misery abounds, ghosts roam its every corner, tricking and deceiving, making groundless accusations, being ruthless and vicious, trampling this ghost town and leaving it littered with dead bodies; the stench of decay covers the land and pervades the air, and it is heavily guarded. Who can see the world beyond the skies? The devil tightly trusses all of man’s body, it puts out both his eyes, and seals his lips firmly shut. The king of devils has rampaged for several thousand years, right up until today, when it still keeps a close watch on the ghost town, as if it were an impenetrable palace of demons; this pack of watchdogs, meanwhile, stare with glaring eyes, deeply fearful that God will catch them unawares and wipe them all out, leaving them without a place of peace and happiness. How could the people of a ghost town such as this have ever seen God? Have they ever enjoyed the dearness and loveliness of God? … Forefathers of the ancient? Beloved leaders? They all oppose God! Their meddling has left all beneath heaven in a state of darkness and chaos! Religious freedom? The legitimate rights and interests of citizens? They are all tricks for covering up sin!”
The revelation of God’s words made her understand why the CCP hates God so much and wildly arrests believers in God: Its goal is to control the Chinese people, to turn China into a godless land so that they cannot read God’s words, hear, or feel God’s care, protection and love for mankind. It vainly hopes to control all people in its hands, and to exploit them, making them take the path of resisting God and in the end be destroyed by God. Under the guidance of God’s words, Zheng Rong was able to distinguish the CCP’s demonic essence of being an enemy of God. It proclaims religious freedom and the legitimate rights and interests of citizens on the surface, but frantically arrests Christians in secret. Countless Christian families have been ruined by it, and they have been separated from their loved ones. She thought of herself: She used to have a warm and happy family. However, because of her belief in God, the CCP threatened her husband, saying that if she kept believing in God, not only would her husband’s store be forced to close, but her child also would not be allowed to go to school anymore. Her husband was so afraid that he divorced her regardless of their conjugal affection. After the divorce, he even did not allow her to take care of their young child, depriving her of maternal rights, thus making her full of concern for her child. She saw that all this was the consequence of the CCP being in power and persecuting believers in God, and she hated the CCP even more. Then she thought: When the came to do His work, although He and His followers met with wild arrests and persecution at the hands of the Roman government and the Pharisees, His gospel wasn’t hindered but finally spread to the ends of the earth. Nowadays, when God does His work of judgment and chastisement of the last days to purify and save mankind, the CCP tries its best to frustrate and damage His work. But no matter how savage it is, it has not been able to obstruct in the slightest the spread of God’s gospel in the last days. Instead, more and more people have returned to stand before God’s throne. Thinking about this, she no longer felt that distressed. She wiped her tears and decided with the unfaltering will to follow God and walk on the bright path of life.
One day, a sister hurriedly came and told Zheng Rong that the CCP would once again arrest the believers who were arrested before and sentence them to heavy punishments, and that Zheng Rong was one of them, so she was not safe there and needed to go to ground somewhere far away. Zheng Rong knew that believing in God in the country ruled by the CCP, she was destined to suffer hardships. But through this she could see clearly the ugly face of the CCP, so her suffering was valuable and meaningful. Soon afterward, she left her hometown and went to live in the home of an elderly couple who also believe in God in another area. The aged couple treated her as kindly as they treated their own children, which made her feel the warmth of a family. She deeply understood that it was because of God’s love that the brothers and sisters in the church could love each other like a family.
Thinking back on the road she had taken, although she was persecuted by the CCP, she had deeply felt the dearness and loveliness of God: When the CCP came to arrest her, she was timid and afraid, but with God as her support and God’s words giving her strength, she no longer feared the evil CCP. When she fell into the hands of the CCP and was forced to betray God and sell out brothers and sisters, God’s words guided her to see through the CCP’s tricks and bear testimony to God. When her husband was threatened and deceived by the CCP and thus persecuted her, she was passive and weak, and it was God’s words that brought her great comfort and led her out of her pain. When she faced being arrested again, God protected her from danger through the sister coming to notify her. And now, because of God’s love, she stayed with her brothers and sisters in the church and they loved each other like a family. During her experience she felt God was by her side at all times. He was her support and only He never left or forsook her. Just as God says: “When it comes to God, what He has and is, His grace, His mercy, and all His rewards, will be bestowed without reservation upon those who love and follow Him.” She knew that her having the opportunity to come before God and receive His salvation was all due to God’s grace. She thus made up her mind that no matter how perilous and rugged the path that lay ahead was, she would follow God throughout her life without regret.
“Zheng Rong, let’s read God’s words together.” The voice of the elderly sister interrupted her thoughts. She then sat down and read God’s words with the aged couple. She would even more treasure each day of life given by God.
