3 Principles for How to Discern the Voice of God

Hello Zhicheng,

I’ve read some of the book you gave me, The Word Appears in the Flesh, and I see that the word of Almighty God really does have authority and power. However, there are still some things that I’m confused about, you say that The Word Appears in the Flesh is the personal utterance of God, that it is the “scroll opened by the Lamb” as prophesied in Revelation, and that it is “the words of the Holy Spirit to the churches,” but how can you confirm that these words were spoken by God? What is the basis for this? Can you please fellowship on this for me?

Hello Zhao Xun,

I was very happy to receive your letter. To be able to raise this kind of question really shows that you are someone who thirsts for the truth. Below I will talk a little bit about what I have personally accepted in regard to this question. Really, if you want to determine whether or not The Word Appears in the Flesh expressed by Almighty God is the personal utterance of God, we can determine this from three aspects.

1. Each and every one of God’s words carries with it God’s authority and power, if He speaks it, it will be, if He ordains it, thus it will be. This is one of the characteristics of the words spoken by God.

We all know that God created the heavens and earth and all things through His word, when God’s word is expressed, He really does fulfill His prophecies. It is recorded in the Bible, “And God said, Let there be light: and there was light. … Let there be a firmament in the middle of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters. And God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament: and it was so” (Genesis 1:3, 6-7). Let’s also read from the Gospel of John, where it is recorded that the Lord Jesus cried with a loud voice to Lazarus, who had already been dead for four days, and whose corpse had already rotted: “Lazarus, come forth” (John 11:43). Lazarus then came out from his tomb. And there’s also the Lord Jesus’ words of rebuke about the wind and the sea, etc., such facts allow us to see the authority and power of the word of God. When God’s word is spoken it must be counted, and when it is counted it must be completed. Many people, through the words spoken by the Lord Jesus, recognized that He was the Messiah that would come, and as a result, more and more people followed Him, this is a fact that cannot be denied.

When we read the word of Almighty God we see that it also carries authority and power. When His word is expressed, He really does fulfill His prophecies. Just as Almighty God says, “At the end of this work, all religions will become one, all creatures will return under the dominion of the Creator, all creatures will worship the one true God, and all cults will come to nothing, never to appear again.” After the word of Almighty God was expressed, the gospel of the kingdom spreads with unprecedented magnificence. Even though some religious leaders have frantically resisted and condemned Almighty God and His work, and done everything in their power to seal off the church and obstruct the spreading of God’s gospel; even though the CCP has also condemned and persecuted The Church of Almighty God, still, people from various denominations who truly believe in God have recognized through the word of Almighty God that it is the voice of God, and one after another they return to the house of God. Because of the utterances from God they kneel down in worship of Almighty God. The facts make it known that the spreading of God’s work will not be stopped by any enemy forces, this is an outcome achieved through the word of God, and it is a symbol and reflection of the authority and power of God. It truly fulfills the prophet’s prophecy: “And it shall come to pass in the last days, that the mountain of Jehovah’s house shall be established in the top of the mountains, and shall be exalted above the hills; and all nations shall flow to it” (Isaiah 2:2), and the Lord Jesus’ words, “And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold, and one shepherd” (John 10:16). Now we all see that Almighty God’s words of authority have accomplished this fact!

2. The word of God can reveal the root cause and essence of humankind’s corruption as well as the thoughts and minds of men.

We all know that God examines people’s innermost hearts, and that He is able to see through the substance and truth of the human race’s corruption. Like the Jewish common people when they saw the chief priests and Pharisees in their time travel to the ends of the earth to spread the gospel, they believed that these people loved God, but the Lord Jesus revealed who the Pharisees are when He said: “Beware of the scribes, which love to go in long clothing, and love salutations in the marketplaces, And the chief seats in the synagogues, and the uppermost rooms at feasts: Which devour widows’ houses, and for a pretense make long prayers: these shall receive greater damnation” (Mark 12:38-40). Through the Lord’s words we can know that what the scribes enjoyed was their status, they liked making people look up to them, they prayed for long periods of time on purpose so that other people would see that they were very devout, but in private they would embezzle the sacrifices offered by destitute people, they did not have any reverence for God in their hearts. Clearly these people were good at pretense. Just look at the way they handled religious ceremonies and followed doctrine without putting the word of God into practice at all and without following God’s commandments, all of their actions and deeds were in complete contradiction to God’s will and requirements. The Lord Jesus saw through these people and what they were deliberately doing, He made their corrupt substances vividly and thoroughly known, and through this we can see that God examines all people’s innermost hearts, and that what God reveals is the corrupt substance of man.

Jesus exposes the evil of the Pharisees

The words that Almighty God expresses today also expose our corrupt substance and our thoughts and minds, they expose in great detail various aspects of our nature, such as us being arrogant and haughty, deceptive and crooked and selfish and contemptible, which allows us to have a true understanding of the truth and substance of our being corrupted by Satan. Let’s read one of the passages where Almighty God exposes and judges corrupt human race. Almighty God says, “How many believe in Me only so I would heal them? How many believe in Me only so I would use My powers to drive unclean spirits out of their bodies? And how many believe in Me simply to receive peace and joy from Me? How many believe in Me only to demand from Me more material wealth, and how many believe in Me just to spend this life in safety and to be safe and sound in the world to come? How many believe in Me only to avoid the suffering of hell and to receive the blessings of heaven? How many believe in Me only for temporary comfort but do not seek to gain anything in the world to come? When I brought down My fury upon man and seized all the joy and peace he originally possessed, man became doubtful. When I gave unto man the suffering of hell and reclaimed the blessings of heaven, man’s shame turned into anger. When man asked Me to heal him, yet I acknowledged him not and felt abhorrence for him, man went far away from Me and sought the way of witch doctors and sorcery. When I took away all that man had demanded from Me, then all disappeared without a trace.

The word of Almighty God makes it precisely known our intention to make deals with God and receive blessings through our faith in Him. Whenever there are no problems at home and we have the blessing of God, we hold gratitude for God in our hearts, enthusiastically continuing down the path of working for God; but when we come across calamities and trials, we often pray to God to remove these sufferings, and whenever our wishes are not fulfilled, we will start to blame God in our hearts, we will become passive and negligent in our work, we will even openly argue with God, for we feel that we continue down the path for God expending ourselves and putting in a lot of hard work, so God ought to bestow blessings upon us. Our faith in God lies within us making deals with God, if God gives us blessings then we will follow Him properly; if God does not give us blessings then we will turn and leave. To believe in God and worship God ought to be a matter of course, there shouldn’t be talk of rewards, there shouldn’t be talk of receiving blessings, and it’s a relationship between creatures and the Creator. If our relationship with God is just like the relationship between a boss and their employees, where pay is acquired through work, if there’s only transactions and profits, then whenever our desires cannot be achieved we will betray God and leave God. Our nature is extremely selfish and contemptible. These disgraceful situations concerning our faith in God are completely exposed within God’s light, making us feel ashamed and unable to show our faces.

The words from Almighty God today reveal our corrupt natures, which gives our corrupt natures nowhere to hide. Reading the word of God makes us sincerely convinced, it makes us willing to receive the judgment of God’s word in our heart. This also proves that God examines people’s innermost hearts. Besides the Creator, who has this kind of authority and power to examine our corruption so clearly and thoroughly?

3. The word of God can reveal mysteries.

Every time that God becomes flesh He reveals many truths and mysteries. In the Age of Grace, the Lord Jesus who became flesh revealed many mysteries as He preached and worked: “Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand” (Matthew 4:17). “Not every one that said to me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that does the will of my Father which is in heaven” (Matthew 7:21). And so on. Only God could tell us about these mysteries of the kingdom of heaven.

Today the words spoken by Almighty God reveal mysteries never before known by generations past. As the word of God says: “The work I have been managing for thousands of years is only completely revealed to man in the last days. It is only now that I have opened up the full mystery of My management to man. Man knows the purpose of My work and moreover has obtained an understanding of all My mysteries. And I have told man everything about the destination he is concerned about. I have already uncovered for man all My mysteries that were hidden for over 5,900 years.

Almighty God has revealed to mankind the mystery of God’s six-thousand-year management plan: The purpose of the three stages of work, the inside story of the work of the Age of Law and the Age of Grace, the mystery of incarnation, how God’s work saves mankind, how Satan practices its trickery to interrupt and disturb God’s work, the end of each type of man, mankind’s destination, how God will ultimately conclude this age, how Christ’s kingdom will be realized, etc., these mysteries have all been opened up to us one-by-one by Almighty God. Through the mysteries revealed to us by the Lord Jesus and Almighty God we can determine that these mysteries all touch upon matters pertaining to the kingdom of heaven, they are all related to God’s management plan, they are related to mankind’s destination. Apart from God, there is no one else who knows of these mysteries, and this truly verifies the words where the Lord Jesus says, “I have yet many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. However, when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will show you things to come” (John 16:12-13).

What I’ve said above is about the three principles of distinguishing the voice of God. If we are to distinguish the voice of God we must have hearts that long to seek things out, we must pray to God and cry out to God, and we must seek out God’s enlightenment and guidance. The Lord Jesus said, “Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and you shall find; knock, and it shall be opened to you” (Matthew 7:7). I hope that soon you will be certain of God’s work!

May God bless you!
