Raising of Lazarus: Chapters 12-13

Raising of Lazarus: Chapters 12-13

This animated video gives an account of how the Lord Jesus resurrects Lazarus. After Lazarus was dead for four days and buried, all people thought that it was too late to save him even if the Lord Jesus came. But the Lord Jesus said just one word to bring Lazarus back from the dead and then Lazarus came out from his tomb, which astonished all people. The striking fact practically shows forth God’s unique authority and power: God can make people transcend life and death, and raise people from the dead. However, the reason for the Lord Jesus’ doing such action is not merely so that He makes Lazarus come alive; there’s more important meaning in it.

God’s words say, “When the Lord Jesus did something such as bringing Lazarus back from the dead, His goal was to give proof for humans and for Satan to see, and to let humans and Satan know that mankind’s everything, mankind’s life and death are determined by God, and that even though He had become flesh, as always, He remained in command of the physical world that can be seen as well as the spiritual world humans cannot see. This was to let humans and Satan know that mankind’s everything is not under the command of Satan. This was a revealing and a demonstration of God’s authority, and it was also a way for God to send a message to all things that mankind’s life and death is in God’s hands.” “When the Lord Jesus brought Lazarus back from the dead, He used one line: “Lazarus, come forth.” He said nothing aside from this—what do these words represent? They represent that God can accomplish anything through speaking, including resurrecting a dead man. When God created all things, when He created the world, He did so with words. He used spoken commands, words with authority, and just like that all things were created. It was accomplished like that. This single line spoken by the Lord Jesus was just like the words spoken by God when He created the heavens and earth and all things; it equally held the authority of God, the ability of the Creator. All things were formed and stood fast because of words from God’s mouth, and just the same, Lazarus walked out from his tomb because of the words from the Lord Jesus’ mouth. This was the authority of God, demonstrated and realized in His incarnate flesh. This type of authority and ability belonged to the Creator, and to the Son of man in whom the Creator was realized. This is the understanding taught to mankind by God bringing Lazarus back from the dead.

From God’s words we can see that everything the Lord Jesus did is meaningful. The resurrection of Lazarus enables us to have a new knowledge of God, and proves that the Lord Jesus is the incarnation of God Himself. Even though He had become flesh, His authority and power were not limited at all. He could still do whatever He wanted to do and the work that He intended to do. He gave us His words of life, allowed us to receive the provision of life from Him and spread the gospel to the ends of the earth. This is the manifestation of God’s almightiness and wisdom.

The wonder of the Lord Jesus’ resurrection of Lazarus inspires all Christians. After we more deeply recognized the significance of this thing God did, we must have gained more faith in Him. Many things which we have firmly believed impossible are absolutely possible for God. Whatever God wants to do will surely be accomplished. We only need to believe, obey and follow God’s work. In this way, our growth in life and knowledge of God will be on the increase. What a blessing it is!
